Почему бы просто не использовать старый fs.watch? Это довольно просто.

fs.watch('/path/to/folder', (eventType, filename) => {
console.log(eventType);
// could be either 'rename' or 'change'. new file event and delete
// also generally emit 'rename'
console.log(filename);
