У меня есть следующий вид списка, к которому я хочу добавить кнопку с плавающим действием.

В текущей форме кнопка вообще не отображается. Я попытался изменить LinearLayout на CoordinatorLayout, так как многие примеры его используют. Но затем я получаю сообщение об ошибке:

Я также trid FrameLayout, но затем список просматривается на панели инструментов (вы можете видеть панель инструментов в прозрачных частях элементов списка, но они закрывают панель инструментов, а не наоборот)

Попробуйте поставить ListView и FloatingActionButton внутри FrameLayout

вам нужно использовать android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout в качестве корневого макета вместо LinearLayout, тогда только android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton будет работать
