Я столкнулся с подобной проблемой и потратил впустую 4 дня, думая, что идет не так. Окончательно решено с созданием этих строк кода в методе viewDidLoad:

Вот еще один подход для Swift 3, XCode 8.2. Сначала запишите вспомогательную функцию:
