Думаю, эта ошибка, скорее всего, возвращается локальным Squid, развернутым на сервере.
Таким образом, все работало хорошо после замены localhost на local_ip, в котором был развернут ElasticSearch.
API _cluster/health может сделать гораздо больше, чем типичный вывод, который большинство видит с ним:
